General remarks
Carrera is an early table potato variety with oval - round oval tubers, yellow skin and light yellow flesh. The grading is regular. Carrera has a firm cooking type (AB). The dry matter is a little bit low. The results in the countries around the Mediterranean Sea are good.
Maturity
Early with very early tuberisation.
Seed treatment
The dormancy is rather short. When the tubers are out of dormancy, pre-sprouting is not necessary. Slightly susceptible to sprout damage.
Fertilisation
Requires 10-15% more than an average N-fertilisation. A divided dose is recommended. Also a good Potassium (K) fertilisation is advised.
Cultivation
Carrera gives good results on fields with a good soil structure. It is recommended not to plant this variety too early because of risk of 'little potatoes'. Carrera is growing rather high in the ridge, so it is advisable to plant this variety a little bit lower than normal. This variety is not sensitive to Sencor. The sprouting and emergence are normal. It is advisable to treat regular against late blight. Avoid an irregular growth, otherwise growth cracks may occur.
Harvest
Carrera is hardly susceptible to internal bruising and mechanical damage. If the tubers are lifted with care, harvest does not need to cause problems.
Storage
Carrera has a rather short dormancy but stores well. It is advisable to avoid condensation during storing because Carrera is rather succeptible to silverscurf.
Resistance to diseases
Carrera is resistant to potato cyst nematodes (Ro1) and to wart disease. Rather susceptible to foliage blight and slightly susceptible to tuber blight. Good resistance to PLRV and a very good resistance to PVYntn. This variety is fairly resistant to internal bruising. Carrera is moderately susceptible to common scab.
